Canyon Morning 8×10 oil on board –Sold–

 

Zion Canyon in the AM, hard to believe that little Virgin River did all that work.  Playing around with some color shapers, no brushes at all.  Maybe something that could be worked up bigger, sometime.  Interesting in Zion that even down on the valley floor there is no real sense of constriction, of enclosure, being hemmed in.  The walls are like a vast open landscape somehow upended, turned vertical, and there is a feeling of spaciousness and immensity.  That changes somewhat if you hike up the narrows, which I didn’t do this trip (cold, cold water in spring) but years ago I did in September–have to try and get back there again in the fall…
